If the application won't start, most issues are resolved in seconds. Here are common problems and solutions:

  • "Java not found" error: Make sure you get the version with bundled JDK from this page, or set JAVA_HOME in your system environment variables.
  • Won't open on Windows 11: Right-click sqldeveloper.exe, select Properties, enable "Run as administrator" under Compatibility.
  • "Connection refused": Verify the database is running and your firewall allows the port (1521, 3306, 5432, or 1433).
  • Slow startup: Edit ide\bin\ide.conf and set -Xmx2048m or -Xmx4096m for more memory.
